AiA and Association of Nigerian Bookmakers Sign MoU

The African iGaming Alliance (AiA) and the Association of Nigerian Bookmakers (ANB) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation on issues affecting Nigeria’s regulated gaming and iGaming industry, as well as the wider African market.

The agreement was signed in Lagos on 4 September 2026 by Mrs. Olabimpe Akingba, AiA Board Member and Head of Responsible Gaming at PawaTech, and Ms. Gift Tuadibofa, Executive Secretary of ANB. The partnership brings together a Pan-African industry organisation and Nigeria’s association representing licensed sports betting operators.

Under the MoU, the two organisations will explore cooperation in areas including responsible and safer gaming, player protection, regulation, taxation, compliance, anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (AML/CFT). They will also work on issues surrounding illegal and unlicensed gaming, market integrity, research, knowledge sharing and industry capacity building.

The partnership is intended to support greater exchange of experience and best practices between Nigeria and other African markets. Both organisations said stronger cooperation between national industry associations and Pan-African institutions is becoming increasingly important as gaming markets develop across borders.

Commenting on the agreement, Ms. Gift Tuadibofa said the MoU would strengthen Nigeria’s engagement with the wider African gaming ecosystem. She highlighted the importance of collaboration, responsible practices and sustainability as the industry continues to grow.

Mrs. Olabimpe Akingba said the partnership provides an opportunity to deepen engagement with Nigerian industry stakeholders and contribute to wider discussions around responsible gaming and sustainable industry development across Africa.

The organisations also pointed to technology, digitalisation, changing consumer behaviour, regulatory developments and cross-border participation as factors shaping the future of gaming and iGaming. They said these developments create opportunities for innovation and economic growth while increasing the need for shared standards and stronger cooperation.

The MoU also recognises the role of operators, regulators, policymakers, technology providers, researchers, advocacy organisations and other stakeholders in building a sustainable gaming ecosystem.

The agreement will run for an initial period of one year, with the option to renew by mutual agreement.
